Vipanchika

The first unit being completed, we were supposed to conduct the unit tests of the respective lessons. Every directions from the teacher concerned was properly followed and the test was successfully completed. Though there were many absentees in the class due to viral fever and heavy rains, the performance of the students was satisfactory. Their marks showed that they have been paying attention to the class and are studying their lessons at home. 

Well, the much awaited first observation has done. Though well prepared with lesson plans, teaching aids and everything, as usual, my confidence went so down. The very presence of our optional teacher made me nervous and restless. However, her all smiling face and ever encouraging face instilled in me confidence to an extent. When the initial tension faded a little bit, I focused on the class and it resulted in fruition. The support and the readiness showcased by the 9th B students is worth mentioning. The positive remarks and very mild suggestions Meekha Ma'am gave me made my day. 

ലോകത്താകമാനമുള്ള ദശലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് ആളുകളെ നേരിട്ടും അല്ലാതെയും ബാധിക്കുന്ന വിപത്താണ് ലഹരിയുടെ ഉപയോഗവും അതിന്റെ കടത്തും . ഈ വിഷയത്തില്‍ അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കാനും മുഴുവൻ ജനങ്ങളെയും ലഹരിക്കെതിരായുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തില്‍ അണിനിരത്തുന്നതിനുമായാണ് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭ ജുണ്‍ 26 അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ ദിനമായി (International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking) ആചരിക്കുന്നത്. ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭയുടെ കീഴിലുള്ള വിയന്ന ആസ്ഥാനമായുള്ള UNODC (United Nations Office On Drug and Crime) എന്ന ഘടകമാണ് ദിനാചരണങ്ങളെ ഏകോപിക്കുന്നത്.  അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ ദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കന്യാകുളങ്ങര ഗേൾസ് ഹയർ സെക്കൻഡറി സ്‌കൂളിൽ ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ റാലിയും പ്രഭാഷണ, പോസ്റ്റർ രചനാ മത്സരങ്ങളും സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. ഹെഡ്മാസ്റ്ററിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ കുട്ടികൾ ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ പ്രതിജ്ഞ ഏറ്റു ചൊല്ലി.

ദേശീയ വായന ദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കന്യാകുളങ്ങര ഗേൾസ് സ്‌കൂൾ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച വായന മാസാചരണത്തിന്റെ ഉദ്ഘാടനം കവിയും പ്രഭാഷകനും സാംസ്കാരിക പ്രവർത്തകനുമായ ശ്രീ വിഭു പിരപ്പൻകോട് അക്ഷര ദീപം കൊളുത്തി നിർവഹിച്ചു. അരമണിക്കൂർ നീണ്ട അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വായന ദിന സന്ദേശത്തിനൊടുവിൽ വായന ദിന പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചൊല്ലുകയും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ  പ്രശസ്ത കവിതകൾ ചൊല്ലി കാവ്യാർച്ചന നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.

First day of the second phase of teaching practice made me a little bit nostalgic. The morning assembly and it's procedures, the interval and the play time, lunch break and physical training periods and everything, everything reminded me of the days bygone. Ah, sweet were the days when we shined in childhood innocence. Yes, life gets harder when we grow up.  But, once again.... once again I see in these little faces the light of innocence, the lightness of being, the simplicity of living.  We were quite comfortable in the first day itself. Everything seemed systematic and orderly. Teachers were supportive and the students were ever pleasant and ready to receive. Being the first day, I gave just an introduction to myself and the unit and the lesson going to be discussed in the next class.

There's nothing exciting about going to the allotted school for collecting time table prior to the practice teaching session as far as a B. Ed trainee is concerned. It's a routine, after all. We usually go, meet the HM, consult the teachers concerned, collect the timetable and return home coldly (and, at times, insulted and humiliated). But today's experience was something different. We felt a sort of peace, a  sort of satisfaction.       We, two each from English and Physical Science optionals, reached the school (Govt. Girls HSS Kanyakulangara) at 9.30 am as planned and to our astonishment,  we were welcomed with warmth and affection. The Head master was down to earth, considerate, kind and empathetic and was willing to support us in any way possible. All other teachers treated us as we are already a part of the teaching fraternity there. It helped us feel at home and develop self esteem. Well, to be frank, we were never used to this. We were always treated with contemt a

ഒരു ബി. എഡ് കോളേജിനെ സംബന്ധിച്ച് വിവിധങ്ങളായ പരിപാടികൾ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുക എന്നുള്ളത് അത്ര പുതുമയുള്ള കാര്യമല്ല. മാർ തെയോഫിലസ് കോളേജ് അക്കാര്യത്തിൽ ഒട്ടും പിന്നിലല്ല താനും. ഈ അടുത്ത ദിവസങ്ങളിൽ ഒത്തിരി പരിപാടികൾ ഒന്നിനു പുറകെ ഒന്നായി ആസൂത്രണം ചെയ്തു വിജയകരമായി പൂർത്തിയാക്കാൻ കോളേജ് കൂട്ടായ്‌മയ്ക്ക് കഴിഞ്ഞു എന്നുള്ളത് തികച്ചും അഭിനന്ദനാർഹം തന്നെ. ലോക പരിസ്‌ഥിതി ദിനമായ ഇന്നും കോളേജ് മാതൃകാപരമായ പ്രവർത്തനം കാഴ്ച്ച വെച്ചു എന്നു തന്നെ പറയട്ടെ. കിംസ് ആശുപത്രി അധികൃതരുമായി സഹകരിച്ചു നടത്തിയ രക്തദാന ക്യാമ്പ് അതിലൊന്നാണ്. തീർത്തും അദ്ഭുതകരമായ സഹകരണമാണ് കോളേജിന് അകത്തു നിന്നും പുറത്തുനിന്നും ലഭിച്ചത്. പരിസ്‌ഥിതി ദിനാചരണത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ക്യാമ്പസ് വൃത്തിയാക്കുക കൂടി ചെയ്തപ്പോൾ ദിവസത്തിന് ഭംഗി കൂടുക തന്നെ ചെയ്തു. 

Two days have gone by. Four sessions of orientation have done. Proper initiation to the next semester has made. The first day was unforgettable, for it gave us enough food for thought and reflection. Ms. Asha Ma'am, who is a familiar face to us, handled the first session and filled both our head and heart alike. After the 15 minutes break, Dr. V. Raghu Sir, the head of the M. Ed department, talked to us about the magic of time management.  Definitely, it was an eye opener to many of us  who constantly face time management troubles . The day ended with Joju Sir, the new principal of Mar Theophilus Training college, addressing us and Bindu Ma'am, the academic counselor of our college giving us an overview of the new semester. 

Being the first day of college reopening, we were supposed to be happy and excited, for we are meeting after a break of almost 60 days. To our utter disappointment, we were welcomed with the saddest news - that our dear George sir is being transferred to another college near his residence at Anchal. He was such a fine teacher to us; so good, straight forward, approachable and systematic in academic matters. A man of manners! A man of reason! A man of good will! Such a responsible and efficient teacher in the right sense of the words! Sir, you are irreplaceable! You never preached scriptures to us, but showed us what a great teacher ought to be. Thank you Sir. We are going to miss you for sure.  We love you for what you are! We respect you for what you are not! Wishes and prayers Sir...
