Thus, it's over. The second phase of teaching practice came to an end. Yes, we have done away with a fraction of our workload.We're happy, ofcourse. But the valediction was painful. Something, something at the corner of our heart seems to weigh us down. We are going to miss something so badly. Whether it's the calm, serene and tranquil atmosphere of the school, or it's the all supportive and ever smiling teachers, or it's the unconditional love of those innocent beings, our beloved students, I don't know.  The small yet beautiful valedictory function arranged by the school fraternity proved their love towards us. The love and affection showcased by the students touched our mind very much. What else does one need to make their day meaningful?!  We are leaving with a heavy heart not knowing why. GHSS Kanyakulangara you deserve a salute! 

I took a break from the teaching practice for a day. Do you know why? Because I was asked and summoned to take the demonstration class at college. After successfully completing the two sessions of teaching practice, it is not at all a task to engage a class. That much equipped we are with our teaching pedagogy and experiences. But still, I was all tensed and nervous, for I was supposed to engage the class of 6 people, almost all of them having a master degree! See the irony! You can fill an empty bottle, that's easier, I think. But what about bottles that are filled to the brim?! Yet, I managed to engage them satisfactorily. I tried hard to make them least bored; to help them maintain their interest even though the grammar portion was thorough to them.  Anyway, that was yet another page of experience in the book of my life. 

One of the essential requirements of the school internship, without any argument, is achievement test. It helps the teachers to measure the comprehension and subject mastery achieved by the students. It enables the teacher to identify the weaker areas of students' learning and helps the teacher cater to their needs and interests more. The achievement test was successfully conducted in 9. B, and the learners seemed to appear for the test quite seriously. Now, the answer sheets have to be corrected, diagnostic chart should be made, diagnostic test is to be conducted and remedial lessons are to be prepared. Wow, it seems that we are nearing the completion of our teaching practice. 

Well, the much awaited, 'several times postponed', second round observation took place today. Meekha Ma'am arrived on time, just two minutes before the bell for the second period rang. Arsha was well prepared and equipped with all her teaching aids including PPT, models and activity cards, and the teacher's feedback testified that her performance was worth the efforts. To speak about my class, I too was prepared, though there were less teachings aids, models and the like. I could handle the session well, though not so well as expected, but it was fruitful, I suppose. I was confident yet nervous, for there were two teachers, not one, to observe my class; Meekha Ma'am, our optional teacher and Abhilash Sir, my teacher concerned. However, I managed to engage the class satisfactorily. Thus,  we are free now; no more observations, no more tensions.

Dhanpat Rai Srivastava,   better known by his pen name  Munshi Premchand , was an Indian writer famous for his modern Hindustani literature. He is one of the most celebrated writers of the Indian subcontinent, and is regarded as one of the foremost Hindi writers of the early twentieth century. He was born on 31st July 1880 in Varanasi district and this date is celebrated every year as “Premchand Jayanti". On occasion of Premchand Jayanti, Hindi Club of GHSS Kanyakulangara   arranged a special assembly where the club members offered a homage to the great personality through  a short performance of a scene from his story. They conducted a short exhibition as well.

GOTEC (Global opportunities through English communication), is a project initiated by t he district panchayat  in association with the District Centre for English aimed to improve students’ English language proficiency and open the doors to opportunities that may be denied to them owing to poor English communication skills despite learning the language for years. The programme of this academic year at Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Kanyakulangara was inaugurated on 27th July 2023 by the President of the District Panchayat Smt. Sheela Kumari on a well coordinated Meeting. The small population including the GOTEC ambassadors of standard 7 and 8, was engaged by Sri. Vijayakumaran Nair, a veteran English teacher and expert for almost an hour.

കേരള സംസ്ഥാന പൗൾട്രി വികസന കോർപ്പറേഷൻ സ്‌കൂൾ വിദ്യാർഥികൾക്കായി നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്ന 'കുഞ്ഞുകൈകളിൽ കോഴിക്കുഞ്ഞ്' എന്ന പദ്ധതിക്ക് കന്യാകുളങ്ങര  ഗേൾസ് ഹയർസെക്കൻഡറി സ്‌കൂളിൽ തുടക്കമായി. കേരള സംസ്ഥാന ഭക്ഷ്യസുരക്ഷാ മന്ത്രി അഡ്വ. ജി. ആർ.  അനിൽ പദ്ധതി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. 460 വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് 5 കോഴികളെ വീതവും 5 കിലോ കോഴിത്തീറ്റയും നൽകി. ബി വി 3 180 എന്ന ഇനത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട കോഴികളെയാണ് വിതരണം ചെയ്തത്. സ്‌കൂളിലെ  8, 9 ക്ലാസുകളിലെ കുട്ടികൾക്കാണ് കോഴിക്കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ വിതരണം ചെയ്തത്. മുട്ട ഉത്പാദനത്തിലും കോഴിയിറച്ചി ഉത്പാദനത്തിലും സ്വയംപര്യാപ്തത കൈവരിക്കുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെയാണ് ഈ പദ്ധതി നടപ്പിലാക്കുന്നത്. കുട്ടികളിൽ കോഴിവളർത്തലിനുള്ള താല്പര്യം വർധിപ്പിച്ച് അവരിൽ സ്വാശ്രയ ശീലവും സമ്പാദ്യശീലവും വളർത്തി കോഴി മുട്ട ഉൽപാദനം വികസിപ്പിക്കുക, കുട്ടികൾക്കാവശ്യമായ ഭക്ഷണത്തിൽ കോഴിമുട്ടയുടെ ലഭ്യത ഉറപ്പാക്കി അർപ്പണബോധവും ആരോഗ്യമുള്ള സമൂഹത്തെ വാർത്തെടുക്കുക, ഇതുവഴി കോഴിവളർത്തൽ രംഗത്തെ സാധ്യതകൾ പരമാവധി പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്തുക എന്നിവയാണ് പദ്ധതിയുടെ ലക്ഷ്യം. 

Finally, all the hardwork and hardships for two weeks have resulted in fruition. They made it! Yes, the teaching trainies from various institutions have made the Moon day exhibition a reality. It was well planned, well organized and well executed.  It is yet another golden feather in the glorious cap of the school's achievements, for sure.

" അനന്തം അജ്ഞാതം അവര്‍ണ്ണനീയം ഈ ഭൂലോകഗോളം തിരിയുന്നമാര്‍ഗം അതിങ്കെലങ്ങാണ്ടൊരിടത്തിരുന്നു നോക്കുന്ന മര്‍ത്യന്‍ കഥയെന്തു കണ്ടു!" ആയിരക്കണക്കിന് വർഷങ്ങളായി, മനുഷ്യ നാഗരികതകൾ ആകാശത്തേക്ക് നോക്കുകയും ചന്ദ്രന്റെ ഉത്ഭവത്തെയും നിഗൂഢതകളെയും കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു – നമ്മുടെ ഒരേയൊരു പ്രകൃതി ഉപഗ്രഹം. ആദ്യത്തെ ടെലിസ്‌കോപ്പുകളുടെ കണ്ടുപിടിത്തത്തിലൂടെ പ്രാപ്‌തമാക്കിയ ഭൂഗർഭ നിരീക്ഷണങ്ങൾ നമ്മുടെ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ സഹചാരിയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള നമ്മുടെ ധാരണയിൽ ഒരു പുതിയ അധ്യായം തുറന്നു.   ബഹിരാകാശ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിച്ചതോടെ, പ്രപഞ്ചത്തിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ മനുഷ്യന്റെ കാൽപ്പാടുകൾ മറ്റൊരു സ്ഥലത്തേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവന്ന ക്രൂഡ് ഫ്ലൈറ്റുകൾ ഉൾപ്പെടെ എണ്ണമറ്റ ദൗത്യങ്ങളുടെ ആത്യന്തിക ലക്ഷ്യസ്ഥാനമായി ചന്ദ്രൻ മാറി.  ഭൂമിക്ക്‌ പുറത്ത്‌ മനുഷ്യന്‍ ചെന്നെത്തിയിട്ടുള്ള ഒരേയൊരു ശൂന്യാകാശഗോളം ചന്ദ്രനാണ്‌. ചാന്ദ്രപര്യവേഷണങ്ങള്‍ മനുഷ്യനെ ചന്ദ്രനിലിറക്കാന്‍ ആരംഭിച്ച യജ്ഞം അമേരിക്കയുടെ ശൂന്യാകാശഗവേഷണ കേന്ദ്രമായ നാസയുടെ 1967-ല്‍ ആരംഭിച്ച അപ്പോളോ -1 ദൗത്യം ആയിരുന്നു. 1967 ജനുവരി 27 ന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയ അപ്പോളോ -1 ദുരന്തമായിത്തീര്‍ന്നു. പേടകത...

Words won't suffice to explain the hardwork of these women. It's no exaggeration to say that these girls excel in whatever they are in, no matter what. From the brain behind the idea to the planning for the actualization of the idea, to the organisation and coordination and everything, they have their part. And, the students, their participation and involvement need special mention. We are witnessing creativity at its peak! A bunch of creative spirits! Let's wait to see them working wonders!

After a short break of 4 days we went to the school with a reluctant mind. The students,  like their training teachers, were all the more lazy after the cozy, comfortable and leisurely weekend. It took an hour or two to get back into the saddle. However, we prepared our lessons, engaged the classes, served the food and did our duties satisfactorily. The day was smooth, productive and memorable.

Yet another day of work and weariness has gone by. Two classes were engaged and, as usual, it has drained all my energy. I had to shout in the class, for the students were least attentive and restless. Being the last period of the day, they were eager to go home, which is typical of school children. I couldn't complete the lesson plan as planned, as I was desperately trying to make them concentrate on the class. Anyway, that was a wild goose chase. They turned a deaf year to my words and, to be frank, I lost my control and I yelled at them. The class fell into utter silence. They stared at me unblinkingly. I poured out all my frustrations into words and sat at the teacher's table silently. They seemed guilty. They were speechless. I was about to restart the class and then the bell rang. Thus, the day ended. 

Some unexpected moments in your life help you build confidence to present yourself positively, give courage to handle situations peacefully and let you realize your strengths and weaknesses. It could have been a normal day if there wasn't that surprise visit by Maya Ma'am. Even though we have been anticipating the visit of one of the general teachers for a while, we didn't even in our wildest dreams thought that somebody would turn up today. And that happened. The dramatic entry of Maya Ma'am aroused in us feelings some what inexplicable;  we don't know whether it was tension or nervousness or anxiety. But the never fading smile on her face and 'nothing to fear, go ahead' kind of attitude gave us confidence and courage. However, we fared well despite all the adverse circumstances. And you know what, Maya Ma'am gave us two packets of 'jeeraka mittayi' as a token of her love along with all those positive comments.

Busy days and hectic schedules no longer make any impact upon us. They have become part and parcel of our daily routine. Apart from my regular classes,  I engaged a UP class, which was actually an  interesting experience. I could finish the topic in my class as planned and hence all the language activities related to the first unit are completed. Many other assignments were completed in between along with the regular school duties. We left the school at 4. 30, almost 1 hr late than usual.

'വിശ്വവിഖ്യാതനായ' കഥാകാരന്റെ ഓർമ ദിനം വിപുലമായി, എന്നാൽ തീർത്തും ലളിതമായി ആചരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു.  വളരെ ചിട്ടയായി അവതരിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ട മോണിംഗ് അസ്സംബ്ലിയിൽ ബഷീർ കയ്യെഴുത്ത് പ്രതി പ്രകാശനം ചെയ്യുകയും, ബഷീറിന്റെ ഉദ്ധരണികൾ വായിക്കുകയും ബഷീർ കൃതികളെ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു. ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് നടന്ന ബഷീർ അനുസ്മരണ ക്വിസിൽ യു.പിയിലെയും ഹൈസ്‌കൂളിലെയും അൻപതോളം കുട്ടികൾ പങ്കെടുത്തു. ഇരുപതിൽ ഇരുപത് മാർക്കും നേടി 9. C യിലെ അഭിനന്ദന ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ നേട്ടം കൈവരിച്ചു. 

'മാവിൻ ചോട്ടിലെ മണമുള്ള മധുര'ത്തിന് ഇത്രയേറെ വിവിധങ്ങളായ രുചികൾ സമ്മാനിക്കാനാവുമെന്ന് തെല്ലൊരത്ഭുതത്തോടെയും അതിലേറെ സന്തോഷത്തോടെയും മനസിലാക്കിയത് ഇന്നാണ്. കന്യാകുളങ്ങര ഗവണ്മെന്റ് ഗേൾസ് ഹയർ സെക്കൻഡറി സ്‌കൂളിലെ നാഷണൽ സർവ്വീസ് സ്കീം സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച 'മധുരം :  മാമ്പഴ ഫെസ്റ്റ്' വേറിട്ടൊരു അനുഭവമായി. കേഡറ്റുകൾ,  പരസഹായത്തോടെയോ അല്ലാതെയോ പാകം ചെയ്ത അമ്പതിലേറെ വിഭവങ്ങൾ ഉദ്ഘാടനം കഴിഞ്ഞ് കഷ്ടിച്ച് അര മണിക്കൂറിനുള്ളിൽ വിറ്റുപോയത് അവയുടെ രുചിമാഹാത്മ്യം കൊണ്ട് മാത്രമാണെന്നുള്ളതിൽ അതിശയോക്തി തീരെ വേണ്ട.

The first unit being completed, we were supposed to conduct the unit tests of the respective lessons. Every directions from the teacher concerned was properly followed and the test was successfully completed. Though there were many absentees in the class due to viral fever and heavy rains, the performance of the students was satisfactory. Their marks showed that they have been paying attention to the class and are studying their lessons at home. 

Well, the much awaited first observation has done. Though well prepared with lesson plans, teaching aids and everything, as usual, my confidence went so down. The very presence of our optional teacher made me nervous and restless. However, her all smiling face and ever encouraging face instilled in me confidence to an extent. When the initial tension faded a little bit, I focused on the class and it resulted in fruition. The support and the readiness showcased by the 9th B students is worth mentioning. The positive remarks and very mild suggestions Meekha Ma'am gave me made my day. 

ലോകത്താകമാനമുള്ള ദശലക്ഷക്കണക്കിന് ആളുകളെ നേരിട്ടും അല്ലാതെയും ബാധിക്കുന്ന വിപത്താണ് ലഹരിയുടെ ഉപയോഗവും അതിന്റെ കടത്തും . ഈ വിഷയത്തില്‍ അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കാനും മുഴുവൻ ജനങ്ങളെയും ലഹരിക്കെതിരായുള്ള പ്രവര്‍ത്തനത്തില്‍ അണിനിരത്തുന്നതിനുമായാണ് ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭ ജുണ്‍ 26 അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ ദിനമായി (International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking) ആചരിക്കുന്നത്. ഐക്യരാഷ്ട്ര സഭയുടെ കീഴിലുള്ള വിയന്ന ആസ്ഥാനമായുള്ള UNODC (United Nations Office On Drug and Crime) എന്ന ഘടകമാണ് ദിനാചരണങ്ങളെ ഏകോപിക്കുന്നത്.  അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ ദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കന്യാകുളങ്ങര ഗേൾസ് ഹയർ സെക്കൻഡറി സ്‌കൂളിൽ ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ റാലിയും പ്രഭാഷണ, പോസ്റ്റർ രചനാ മത്സരങ്ങളും സംഘടിപ്പിച്ചു. ഹെഡ്മാസ്റ്ററിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യത്തിൽ കുട്ടികൾ ലഹരി വിരുദ്ധ പ്രതിജ്ഞ ഏറ്റു ചൊല്ലി.

ദേശീയ വായന ദിനത്തോടനുബന്ധിച്ച് കന്യാകുളങ്ങര ഗേൾസ് സ്‌കൂൾ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച വായന മാസാചരണത്തിന്റെ ഉദ്ഘാടനം കവിയും പ്രഭാഷകനും സാംസ്കാരിക പ്രവർത്തകനുമായ ശ്രീ വിഭു പിരപ്പൻകോട് അക്ഷര ദീപം കൊളുത്തി നിർവഹിച്ചു. അരമണിക്കൂർ നീണ്ട അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ വായന ദിന സന്ദേശത്തിനൊടുവിൽ വായന ദിന പ്രതിജ്ഞ ചൊല്ലുകയും വിദ്യാർത്ഥികൾ  പ്രശസ്ത കവിതകൾ ചൊല്ലി കാവ്യാർച്ചന നടത്തുകയും ചെയ്തു.
